Exciting news at Calgary’s Jewish Film Festival: Upcoming screenings sweep Israeli Academy Awards

Actresses Shira Haas (L) and Alena Yiv delivered award winning performances in Asia, a debut feature film by Israeli Director Ruthy Pribar. The film won 8 awards at the Israeli Academy Awards and it will be Israel's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Academy Awards.

(AJNews) – The Israeli Academy Awards were just announced earlier today, and the 2020 Virtual Calgary Jewish Film Festival is thrilled to let you know that two of the films that we’ll be screening at our festival have swept this year’s awards, notes Film Festival founder and director Harvey Cyngiser.

The film ASIA won the awards for Best Picture, Best Actress (Alena Yiv), Best Supporting Actress (Shira Haas), Best Cinematography, as well as 5 other awards. ASIA will be Israel’s official selection for Best International Feature Film at the 2021 Oscars.

ASIA will be screened at the 2020 virtual Calgary Jewish Film Festival on November 14 at 7 pm. The film will be available for streaming for 48 hours from start time.

The film HERE WE ARE won the awards for Best Director (Nir Bergman), Best Screenplay (Dana Idisis), Best Actor (Shai Avivi) and Best Supporting Actor (Noam Inber).

Here We Are will be screened at the 2020 virtual Calgary Jewish Film Festival on November 19 at 7 pm. The film will be available for streaming for 48 hours from start time.
