(Calgary) – The Calgary Jewish Community will gather on November 9 for the community’s annual Kristallnacht Commemoration, in partnership with Beth Tzedec Congregation’s Calgary Jewish Film Festival.
Following a brief ceremony, the evening will feature a screening of “I Draw Them the Best I Can,” followed by a very special panel discussion with the film’s co-directors Jamie Michaels and Liam Karp, and its subject, Holocaust survivor Adam Policzer.
Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, commemorates the November 1938 Nazi pogrom against Jewish communities in Germany and Austria, a turning point in the persecution of European Jewry.
This free event is open to everyone. Registration is required.
The Calgary Jewish Film Festival begins two days before the Kristallnacht commemoration, on Saturday November 7 with the opening night feature film Our Loves. The following two weeks – until November 22 – will see an exciting line-up of outstanding and critically-acclaimed films and special guests. From stirring dramas to thought-provoking documentaries, this year’s selection of films will explore a range of themes and take us to destinations as diverse as the Jewish experience itself – from Broadway, Brazil and Austria to Mexico City, Jerusalem and the Canadian Arctic.
