JFED UPDATE: Successful campaign raises funds for a Jewish Studies Lecturer at U of A

(EJNews) – The Jewish Federation of Edmonton (JFed) has provided this exciting update on the University of Alberta and JFed’s campaign to raise funds for a Jewish Studies Lecturer at the UofA.

Thanks to the generous support of UofA alumnus Dr Samuel Belzberg, OC, OBC and Frances Belzberg, CM and many generous members of our Edmonton Jewish Community, we are pleased to announce we have exceeded our goal of raising $500,000 for a lecturer in Jewish Studies at the UofA.

We were also able to provide funds for an undergraduate scholarship.

The Faculty of Arts is now moving ahead to recruit the Belzberg Professor in Jewish Studies (a five year term lecturer position) to enhance and sustain this fascinating and critical field of study. We anticipate a start date of July 2018.

We will be working with the Faculty of Arts to organize an event to thank our donors and celebrate the success of the campaign in the fall, including the opportunity to meet with the new faculty member. We thank you for your generous support for this endeavour, which has enabled us to meet our goal of providing for a continuing Jewish Studies program at the University of Alberta.

There is still time to make a donation to this program if you have not already done so. Please contact either Elianna Lisan at the Federation offices eliannal@edjfed.org, (780) 487-0585 or Jane Potentier at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Arts jane.potentier@ualberta.ca, (780) 492-8060.
