(AJNews) – Friends of JNF Canada gathered in Calgary on September 30 to hear the insights of Dr. Dotan Rousso, a philosopher, author, and legal scholar with a diverse academic and professional background. He is an educator in Calgary who previously served as a legal advisor at the Knesset and as a criminal prosecutor in Israel.

Rousso is the author of “After October 7th – Being Jewish and Israeli Under Judgement” and the theme of his presentation was “Israel and Scrutiny of the Diaspora.”

During his presentation, he emphasized the importance of understanding our deep connection to Israel and he made several valuable suggestions about what we can do in the diaspora to strengthen the next generation’s awareness and understanding. “His words were a powerful reminder of the strength of our community and our responsibility to stand proudly with Israel.”

Rousso paid homage to his nephew Ofek Ruosso z”l who died on October 7 saving people in kibbutz Be’eri. Ofek Rousso was just 21 years old.

“It was such an honour to have Dr. Dotan Rousso speak at our Friends Of JNF Canada event tonight in Calgary to a full room!” stated Jay Cairns, Executive Director of Alberta Friends of JNF Canada. “It reinforced and strengthened our resolve as Zionists and our responsibility in the diaspora. Thank you to all who attended. This evening was dedicated in memory of Ofek Rousso z”l, may his memory be for a blessing.”
