A message from Calgary Jewish Federation board president Jerrad Blanchard

by Jerrad Blanchard

(Calgary) – My name is Jerrad Blanchard, and I have the privilege of serving as President of the Board of Calgary Jewish Federation. I am grateful for the trust our community has placed in our Board and staff, and for the chance to introduce myself through this Pomegranate page.

Federation is strongest when leadership is shared. Alongside our CEO, Rob Nagus, and an outstanding professional team, our Board’s role is clear: set direction, provide oversight, and help keep Jewish Calgary focused on what matters most – connection, care, security, education, and a vibrant communal life for every generation.

I would also like to highlight our annual United Jewish Appeal Campaign. UJA is how we translate shared values into real support:
• Security and preparedness
• Social services and inclusion
• Holocaust education and human rights
• Israel engagement
• Newcomer welcome through Shalom YYC
• Programs that make Jewish Calgary feel like home.

Last year’s Campaign showed what is possible when this community shows up together. That momentum is not a finish line – it is a foundation. This year’s UJA Campaign asks us to build with the same generosity and purpose.

We continue our movement from planning into action. Our community-wide strategic planning work has helped clarify priorities for the years ahead. Your gifts to UJA fund the everyday work that makes that vision real – not as a slogan, but as people served, institutions strengthened, and a community ready to thrive today and build for the next generation.

I look forward to meeting more of you, listening carefully, and working alongside Rob and our team as we strengthen Jewish Calgary together. Thank you for everything you already give – of your time, your leadership, and your support.

B’Shalom.

Jerrad Blanchard is President, Board of Directors, Calgary Jewish Federation.
