Dear parents, guardians, and families,
Last night there was an incident in the neighbourhood that resulted in a person passing away on our school property. Police were onsite investigating until early this morning and some media outlets were present as well. The incident doesn’t involve anyone from our school community and the police confirmed it is not being investigated as a hate crime.
We didn’t alert parents earlier about this situation because information was changing quickly this morning and we didn’t want to give parents inaccurate information. If the school would have needed to be closed, we would have used the emergency messaging system. We were actually getting ready to the use the system when police told us the school could remain open and operate as normal.
Our school is operating as it normally would today. I can appreciate families may be uneasy knowing a person died on our property. Please know your children are safe and that we care for their well-being. Our thoughts go out to the family of the person who passed away.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.
