(AJNews) – The Edmonton Jewish Film Festival started on May 3 and has enjoyed wonderful community participation and great reviews of the three films that have screened to date.

This coming week will showcase some of the best Jewish-themed films from around the world – 4 in person films at the Capitol Theatre in Fort Edmonton Park and 3 online films – screened for the Edmonton Jewish Community.

On Sunday May 10, EJFF is presenting its first ever free Family Fun Movie with Jewish Family Services screening the Dreamworks classic Shrek for families with young children. This is a free event for everyone and includes a horse-drawn carriage ride at Fort Edmonton Park making it a perfect Mother’s Day outing.

Later that same day, EJFF is presenting Labors of Love – a heartfelt drama about Henrietta Szold, the visionary founder of Hadassah who led Youth Aliyah, saving 11,000 children from the Nazis and then established a healthcare system that treated Arabs and Jews equally. The film will be followed by a Q & A with the director Abby Ginzburg.

On May 12, combining magical realism and evocative hand-drawn animation, Among Neighbours examines many layers of the Holocaust experience of a small rural town in Poland where Jews and Polish Catholics had lived side by side for centuries prior to World War II. The screening features a pre-recorded post screening interview with producer and director Yoav Potash.

On May 13, Closing Night of the Festival, EJFF will screen Matchmaking 2 a joyful comedy that tells the story of love, circumstance and the art of matchmaking with warmth and humour.

The EJFF’s online offerings are Love, Statistically Speaking, Nandauri (Winner of 5 Ophir Israeli Academy Awards), and The Sea (Winner of 5 Ophir Israeli Academy Awards).
