A message from Stacey Leavitt-Wright, CEO Jewish Federation of Edmonton

Jewish Federation of Edmonton CEO Stacey Leavitt-Wright

(Edmonton) – As we enter the month of September and prepare our hearts and homes for the High Holidays, I’m reminded of the strength and resilience of our Jewish community. This season calls us to reflect, renew, and recommit—to our values, to each other, and to the future we are building together.

At the heart of this future is our United Jewish Appeal (UJA) Campaign, As One: Together, which fuels the vital work of our Federation and our partners. From supporting vulnerable populations to strengthening Jewish education and immersive experiences, from countering antisemitism and investing in security and advocacy, your generosity makes it all possible. This year, your support is more critical than ever.

When your volunteer canvasser phones you, asking you to fulfill the mitzvah of tzedakah by supporting our community, please answer their call!

We still stand in unwavering solidarity with Israel, especially as we hold in our hearts the hostages who need to be returned to their families. Their plight reminds us of the importance of unity and collective action. We pray for their safe return as we also go on sending strength to our partnership communities in the Galilee Panhandle, who are returning home and are on a long path to rebuilding.

Here in Edmonton, we are proud to be advancing a bold vision with the development of our new Jewish Community Centre — a space that will serve as a hub for connection, culture, and care. We are establishing an endowment for operating purposes, ensuring it is going to be a beacon of Jewish life for generations to come.

We also maintain a deep commitment to safeguarding our community by working closely with law enforcement and security partners to ensure the protection of our institutions and gatherings. We are actively advocating for policies that uphold our rights, reflect our values, and support the flourishing of Jewish life in Canada.

This is a time for solidarity. Whether through giving, volunteering, or simply showing up for one another, each of us plays a role in shaping a vibrant, secure, and inclusive Jewish future.

May this season bring you and your loved one’s strength, sweetness, and peace.

Shanah Tovah.
