(May 19, 2016) – The Talmud Torah Society held its Annual General Meeting yesterday on May 18, 2016. Past President Laurence Abbott released the following information about the meeting:
Talmud Torah Society held its Annual General Meeting yesterday evening. It was an exceptionally well-attended event. In light of the changes to the executive of our board and the departure of our executive director, the AGM offered an opportunity for members of our community to meet, listen to presentations about society and school business, ask questions, and elect new directors to serve for the 2016-2018 term. The questions were challenging and important, and expressed clear interest in the vitality of our school and the society.
The membership of the board of directors is changing as a result of the election yesterday evening. Joining the board of directors for the 2016-2018 term are Matt Singer, Zoya Kingston, Paul Silverman, Shea Pertman and Barry Slawsky. Angela Topping and Adam Merrick were reelected for the 2016-2018 term. They will be joining Cheryl Goldstein, Rebecca Asbell, and Odette Masliyah who are serving for the second year of their two year terms, and they will be joining directors representing the different grades in our programs at TT, the Parents’ Auxiliary, and the ELC Parents’ Advisory Committee.
On Tuesday, May 24, the board will be electing a new executive committee.
I want to thank everyone who has served on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, the Parents’ Auxiliary, and the ELC PAC this past year, and extend my best wishes to the incoming and returning directors. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to serve the Talmud Torah community.
Importantly, I want to thank all our society staff, all of the teaching, administrative and support staff of Talmud Torah, and all of the parents who volunteer their time to make our school a wonderful place of learning and community for our children and their families.
Thank you,
Laurence Abbott, Past President
Edmonton Talmud Torah Society
