Spa for the Soul event honours Reisa Segal-Sheckter

A wonderful 'Spa for the Soul' event was held on June 24 at the Fantasyland Hotel and Beth Israel Synagogue. (EJNews) – Over 100 women gathered at the Fantasyland Hotel Ballroom on June 24 for a day devoted to health, relaxation and rejuvenation. It was a wonderful Spa Day for the Soul and it included a fabulous assortment of activities for both physical and spiritual indulgence in celebration of Jewish womanhood.

The honouree for the event was Reisa Segal-Sheckter, in recognition of her dedication to the Jewish community of Edmonton and her outstanding volunteerism to women’s programs within the community.

The event was hosted by Chabad Edmonton and sponsored by the inMotion Network with funding provided by Alberta Sport Connection and Mikvah USA. Proceeds from the event were donated to a fund in support of the new Beth Israel Mikvah.

The overall ambience of the program was wonderful, with women in attendance from all walks of Jewish life in Edmonton and all levels of observance and affiliation coming together in sisterhood.

The event kicked off with delicious muffins and smoothies and other healthy snacks and breakfast treats.  A fitness component followed with something for everyone – a krav maga class with counter terror instructor Adina Mincer, a stretch & strengthen class from fitness teacher Jennifer Zhang Chen and a barre class from Megan Clark from Barre Body Studio.

Fitness classes were followed by a large variety of spa treatments that were available on a sign-up basis. This part of the program was relaxed and a lot of fun as the women moved from having their nails done, getting massages and facial treatments while visiting with friends and neighbours.

A gourmet kosher three course luncheon prepared by Rodney Khoo, executive chef of the Fantasyland Hotel was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Guest speaker Mrs. Goldie Plotkin spoke about the beauty and spirituality of the mikvah and the positive effects that mikvah can have on a marriage relationship. Her remarks were perfectly suited to the diverse audience in attendance – meaningful to women already engaging in the regular practice of mikvah and geared towards women who may have never experienced mikvah but are curious about its merits.

After lunch, the women enjoyed a session of Israeli circle dancing with Meirav Or before heading over to Beth Israel Synagogue for a wine and chocolate bar with a tour of the new mikvah.

Everyone was really enthusiastic about the mikvah which they referred to as a “touch of heaven on earth.” All in all it was a great way to spend a Sunday dedicated to fun, fitness, sisterhood and spiritual health.
