Margaritaville at OPH (Our Parents’ Home)

OPH residents, guests and staff members joined in the fun on July 20 for an entertaining "Welcome to Paradise" Margaritaville event.

(EJNews) – The website says Margaritaville is a “state of mind” and even the advertisements for the New York Broadway show of that name state that it’s “more than a musical, it’s a way of life.”

So imagine the atmosphere when residents and guests were greeted with a “Welcome to Paradise” sign at Our Parents’ Home’s first celebration of Margaritaville on July 20.  The fun started in the lobby, where the concierge sported tropical garb and flowers in her hair, and where sun umbrellas and the lush foliage brought images of Mexican resorts to mind.

The sunny roof-top patio and adjacent piano lounge were the perfect location for the live music of a steel drum, exotic cocktails served in coconut or pineapple “shells” and delicious canapes.  This celebration of summer was attended by over 100 residents and guests, many of them dressed for the occasion in colourful shirts and sundresses, and all sporting floral leis.

Staff joined in the fun, with Facility Administrator hosting as Captain Todd, and Food Services Director, Imran, playing bartender and mixing the themed cocktails.  The Caribbean sounds of the steel drum lent a festive air to the proceedings, even tempting one of our residents, Vince, to pick up a set of maraccas and add to the ambiance.

Everyone had a wonderful time with one resident exclaiming, “This was a magical day.”  Another summed up the event saying, “I loved everything about it” and several people were overheard saying, “I can’t wait for the next event.”

Everyone is now looking forward to the 2nd Annual High Tea, which will take place in August.

Our Parents’ Home is a high-end, high-rise seniors’ community on the edge of downtown Edmonton and the river valley, operated on a nonprofit basis and located adjacent to Beth Shalom Synagogue.
