Insight Medical Imaging: Private CT and MRI services are fast and affordable

(Edmonton) – Insight Medical Imaging is proud to offer Northern Alberta and the Greater Edmonton Area Private CT (Computerized Tomography) and Private MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).  Since 2000 we have offered these private services to offset the time strain on publicly funded MRI and CT scanning. Waiting to have one of these procedures performed in a hospital can take many months- even up to a year.  Accessing private CT and MRI services through Insight Medical Imaging is both fast and affordable!

What is CT?

Computerized Tomography (CT) creates a three dimensional image of a scanned area using a series of two dimensional x-ray images. The procedure is safe, effective, and non-invasive. It can be used in both diagnostic and preventative capacities.  CT scanning has incredible potential to make otherwise invasive procedures completely painless. For instance, Virtual Colonoscopy uses CT to look for abnormalities in the colon and eliminates the need for general anaesthetic and the insertion of a scope.

What is MRI?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetic fields and radio waves to create images of the body. These images can be used to diagnose and investigate progression of diseases. MRI uses no ionizing radiation and is the best tool to look for neurological cancers, and to diagnose, stage, and follow-up other cancers. It is also an effective tool to look at musculoskeletal injuries which can occur in sport, heavy labor working environments, or simply day-to-day life. Because MRI uses magnetic fields, it is important that any medical device implants are deemed safe prior to having this procedure done.

What about the cost?

The word “private” often makes healthcare procedures appear unattainable to the average person. This couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality, there are many different body parts that can be imaged using CT and MRI. The more of your body that is imaged, the more the procedure will cost. Most of our Private CT scans range between $400.00 and $600.00, while many of our Private MRI scans fall between $550.00 and $775.00. We encourage patients to check their insurance or employer benefits to see what kind of coverage they may have for private services!

 

How long will I wait?

The benefit of going the private route is clear. Because you pay out of pocket as a patient, you can be seen almost immediately. This means peace of mind and quick results. Some tests, such as Virtual Colonoscopy, require some preparation for optimal images. At most you will wait 2 days.

The private route is the obvious choice for many. We recommend patients discuss this option with their primary care provider, as they are best equipped to determine which tests are required. As supporters of best practise and safe imaging, Insight Medical Imaging requires a requisition from your doctor prior to performing any imaging.
