Edmonton’s Beth Tzedek Congregation invites new members

by Martin Bankey and Stan Bronson

– Beth Tzedek Congregation is launching a membership drive. We are reaching for new members and inviting all interested individuals and families to join us for Shabbat Services on Saturday July 11. We are also extending an invitation to come meet us at our Summer Social which will be held on Saturday August 15th.

We will be celebrating our twentieth anniversary next year. We are one of Edmonton’s smaller synagogues holding regular Shabbat and High Holidays services at the Talmud Torah location which is located in the city’s west end at 6320-172 Street. We are a liberal-minded, egalitarian and very warm and welcoming congregation that follows a Conservative liturgy.

Although we do not have a rabbi, we do have one of Edmonton’s finest cantors in Jack Goldberg who has always lead our High Holidays services as well as being a regular for Shabbat. We can and do offer bar/bat mitzvah lessons (also for adults). Along with regular Shabbat and H.H. Services we hold many educational and social events throughout the year for our members as well as the greater Jewish community.

We are certainly welcoming of all new potential members and guests. Due to our smaller size and age demographics we definitely tend towards an “empty nesters” congregation and that seems to currently work very well for us. We offer very affordable memberships (single or family), opportunities for aliyot and torah readings (if desired), lively discussions and lovely after-service kiddushim.

We would like to have you as members. As noted above, please consider joining us for a sample Shabbat service in July and/or a relaxed summer social in August where you can get to know our shul and meet our members.
