Celebrate Yom Yerushalayim in Edmonton on June 5

The Edmonton Jewish Community is uniting for a Yom Yerushalayim 'Unity Walk" on June 5 starting at Talmud Torah School.

(EJNews) – Yom Yerushalayim will be celebrated in Edmonton on June 5 with a “community unity walk” starting at Talmud Torah School and culminating at Beth Israel Synagogue. It will commemorate the reunification of Jerusalem and the establishment of Israeli control over the Old City in the aftermath of the June 1967 Six-Day War. The theme of the walk is unity and it will also celebrate the coming together of the diverse groups within the Edmonton Jewish Community in a show of unity and friendship.Jerusalem Day (2)

“We are truly excited to celebrate Yom Yerushalayim with so many different people and organizations,” said Rabbanit Batya. “We can really accomplish so much good in the world when we all work together. The true beauty of Judaism is when all Jews from different backgrounds come together to unite as one.”

Several organizations and groups are pitching in to make the Yom Yerushalayim Unity Walk a real community celebration. Many of the same groups are participating that made last year’s event so memorable and some new organizations are joining in this year.

The event starts at 11:30 am at Talmud Torah School and will include sports activities and crafts for the children. At 12:30 a procession will happily march from Talmud Torah to Beth Israel with singing and celebration. The march will be followed by a delicious Pizza Lunch that will be served at Beth Israel Synagogue until 2:30 pm.

“We are really looking forward to the whole community coming together for a fun and exciting event,” concluded Rabbanit Batya. “Come out to support Israel, enjoy the weather, enjoy the neighbourhood, celebrate the community and have a good time with the whole family.”
