Temple Beth Ora signs MOU with the new Jewish Community Centre of Edmonton

by AJNews Staff

(AJNews) – Joel Magalnick, president of Temple Beth Ora – Edmonton’s Reform Jewish Congregation – has announced a new development regarding the future of TBO.

He stated, “I have some exciting and important news to share about the future of our temple: we’re going to be moving! As you may know, Edmonton will be getting a new Jewish Community Centre in the next year-and-a-half or so. Temple Beth Ora’s board has approved entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the JCC to move into the new space after it opens, most likely in the summer or fall of 2026.”

The TBO congregation was located at the Edmonton JCC in the Hillcrest neighbourhood for many years before moving to their current location at 12313 105 Street NW, when the JCC closed.  “We’ve decided to move back into the JCC because the new space will give us more freedom to adjust for the various events we hold, from a small Shabbat service to a large Bar or Bat Mitzvah with enough room to have a kiddush that can hold all the guests,” explained Magalnick. “The building will also be much more secure, accessible, and energy efficient, which will help us realize savings on our utilities, which have become quite expensive in recent years.”

The new JCC, which will be located at the corner of 108 Ave. and 142 Street is quite close to TBO’s current location. “It will be easily accessible by bus and allow TBO to become more integrated into our larger Jewish community,” stated Magalnick. “I’m excited for the opportunities this move will provide us and believe that entering this new era will be transformative for the future of the temple.”
