(Edmonton) – Last night, members of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton gathered for our annual general meeting and to vote on the following motion: “to approve the purchase and acquire lands and buildings for the purpose of a Jewish Community Centre.”
The membership of the Federation voted to move forward with the purchase the old Scouts building at 14205-109 Avenue.
Thank you to everyone who attended tonight’s meeting and to the work of the Facilities and Space Committee and to Beth Shalom Synagogue for hosting. This confirms the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan where one of the goals is to have a facility plan in place for the Edmonton Jewish community.
The next step is to finalize the purchase and form a committee that will develop and oversee the plan to outfit the building. This is an exciting opportunity for our community to move forward to come together in a facility that has potential to become the Jewish hub. The Federation will keep the community informed as this project progresses.
We hope to see you at one of the many upcoming Chanukah events, including an opportunity to gather on Thursday, December 14 to stand in unity while lighting candles for the Israeli hostages.
