(Edmonton) – We’ve had an exciting year at Temple Beth Ora’s Or Shalom Weekly Community School in Edmonton.
Every Saturday morning, Or Shalom welcomes kids ages 3-12 to be part of a Jewish community, learn about Jewish holidays and traditions, get exposure to Hebrew language, and meet other Jewish kids their age.
This year, with the help of a grant from ORT, Or Shalom is getting a curriculum update and our teachers are looking forward to exploring fresh resources with next year’s students. We have also updated our three classrooms with new furniture and artwork.
Highlights from this past year’s Or Shalom programming included a Purim party, a chametz treasure hunt and Passover seder, sculpting braided challah from homemade play doh, planting seeds for Tu Bishvat, a visit with ShinShinim (Israeli ambassadors) to learn about Israel and practice Israeli dancing, and painting a rainbow Mount Sinai for Pride Shabbat.
Or Shalom runs on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12pm at TBO, at the same time as TBO’s Shacharit services, from September to June. This year’s classes start on September 7. To learn more, visit us at https://www.templebethora.org/or-shalom
