Philip Golden Lister
October 19, 1943 – January 13, 2025
Philip Golden Lister, KC – Peacefully at the age of 81, surrounded by children and the classical music that he loved, and after a long slow decline that he courageously fought, endured, and finally accepted.
Predeceased by his parents Simon in 1989, and Ida in 2004. Survived by his children Hana Weiss (Zalman) of Jerusalem, Deb Hatch (Jason) of Edmonton, Ken Lister (Lisa) of Edmonton, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren (one of whom was born as he passed). He is also survived by his wife Sheila and they recently marked 22 years of marriage. He will be missed deeply by his sister Cindie Thompson.
A former geologist, a lawyer for 48 years and a former owner of Lister Furs, he was an outstanding lawyer, but an even better father and husband. He moved to Edmonton in 1953 at the age of 10. He loved reading, football, hockey, Chinese food, and Peter’s burgers. But his true passions were hiking in the mountains and his beloved and incredible rock collection.
We know he took great comfort knowing that his DNA will outlast him over generations and continents.
Donations can be made in his honour to Friends of Israel Defense Forces, The Edmonton Chevra Kadisha, or to Jewish Family Services.
