In loving memory of Joseph Baruch Katchen

Joseph Baruch Katchen, born on August 9, 1945, in Calgary, passed away on October 23, 2024, in Toronto. He was the beloved husband of Maureen Katchen, a devoted father and father-in-law to Benjy and Aviva Katchen, Letty Katchen Cherry, and Aaron and Shira Katchen. He was a cherished Zaidy to his grandchildren Estela, Tyler, Kaia, Dillen, Orli, Akiva, and Eliya.

Joe was the loving son of the late Mire and Kay Katchen and a dear brother and brother-in-law to Bernie and Karen Katchen. He will be deeply missed by his nieces and nephews: Jodi Kovitz, Amy and Jeff Baryshnik, and Michael and Nicola Katchen, along with their children, his cousins, and many friends.

A distinguished Tax Lawyer and Queen’s Counsel, Joe’s academic journey began at McGill University in 1966. He furthered his legal education at the University of Toronto, earning an LL.B. in 1969, and at Harvard University, receiving an LL.M. in 1970.

The funeral service was held on October 27, 2024 in Toronto. Details at Benjamin’s Park Memorial Chapel.
