(AJNews) – Families gathered at Edmonton Talmud Torah School in June to celebrate students from Kindergarten through Grade 6. At the heart of these gatherings were milestone events; the Grade 1 Siddur Presentation, the Grade 2 Torah Ora Celebration and the Grade 6 Farewell. These special events reflected the values of chesed (kindness), simcha (joy), and kehila (community), creating meaningful year-end memories.
The Grade 1 Siddur Presentation is a meaningful step in the students’ Jewish learning journey. Receiving their first Siddur represents the beginning of a lifelong relationship with prayer, tradition, and personal spiritual growth. Families watched with pride as the children sang, recited blessings, and held their beautifully decorated Siddurim for the first time. The joy on their faces captured the essence of simcha, reminding everyone of the wonder that comes with learning something new and sacred.
During the Grade 2 Torah Ora Celebration, students showcased their growing understanding of Torah values and Hebrew literacy. This ceremony emphasized the light (ora) that Torah brings into daily life. Through songs, readings, and reflections, the students demonstrated not only academic progress but also a deepening appreciation for Jewish identity. Their enthusiasm filled the room, creating a sense of kehila as families, teachers, and peers joined together to celebrate their accomplishments.
The Grade 6 Farewell marked the students’ transition to junior high, and their next chapter of learning and personal development. The farewell program highlighted the students’ achievements, leadership, and resilience. Teachers shared memories, students offered reflections, and families applauded the growth that had taken place over the years. Invited guests Trustee Sarah Doll and MLA Lorne Dach shared supportive and uplifting messages that encouraged students as they continue along their learning journeys.
The event embodied chesed, as expressions of gratitude, friendship, and encouragement echoed throughout the room. It was a moment to honour not only academic success but also the character and community spirit the students cultivated during their time at Edmonton Talmud Torah.
Earlier in June, our Grade 6 class took part in a wonderful Shabbaton at Camp BB‑Riback, a much‑loved TT Society tradition. Twenty‑two students, joined by Program Lead Moreh Ari Sniderman and dedicated parent chaperones, enjoyed a meaningful weekend filled with Judaic learning, sports, arts, and rich Shabbat experiences. Together, the Shabbaton and Farewell events beautifully capped their time at TT, leaving them with memories they will carry for years to come.

TT Principal Darin Johnson received a farewell thank you gift from the Talmud Torah community.
Our Early Learning Centre pre-kindergarten graduates shone at a wonderful celebration marking a year of growth. They learned Hebrew, explored Jewish traditions, and built strong friendships. Their confidence and curiosity blossomed as they now step forward proudly, ready to bring everything they have learned into Kindergarten.
After four wonderful years, staff and students said so long to Principal Darin Johnson, who is moving into a new role where he will support leadership development for Edmonton Public Schools. We are pleased to welcome Vin Stocking as the new principal for the 2026–2027 school year. Our community looks forward to continuing our strong partnership with Edmonton Public Schools and supporting Mr. Stocking as he gets to know our unique and wonderful TT community.
