(AJNews) – Sugar Cookies make a great dessert or snack. Their sweetness makes them an ideal way to kickstart the Jewish New Year. This recipe was provided by the Carriage House in Calgary.

Ingredients
• 3 cups flour
• 2 teaspoon baking powder
• ½ teaspoon baking soda
• ¼ teaspoon allspice
• 1 cup shortening
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 eggs, beaten
• 1 cup sugar
• ¼ cup milk
Instructions
Sift dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Cut in shortening. Add vanilla, beaten eggs, sugar and milk and mix well. Roll out dough and cut into your favorite shapes. Sprinkle tops with sugar and place on a baking sheet to bake at 400 degrees until slightly browned.
