Following the October 19 Federal Election that saw the Liberal Party of Canada win a majority government, Edmonton Beth Israel Rabbi Daniel and Rabbanit Batya Friedman extended warm congratulations to Prime Minister Elect Justin Trudeau.
They wrote: “On behalf of Beth Israel Synagogue and the Orthodox Jewish community of Edmonton, we are writing to offer our congratulations on your victory in the Federal election. Canada has a dynamic new Prime Minister-elect and governing party and we look forward to working with you to continue to make this the greatest country in the world, at home and abroad.
“It was an honour to meet with you in your Ottawa office, as part of the Canadian Rabbinic Caucus; we were duly impressed with your commitment to our community and the State of Israel. Moreover, we were most pleased to learn that you consider the Hon. Irwin Cotler to be your mentor. We stand with pride with you and the new Federal government.
“Wishing you much success in the years ahead.”
