Rebecca Asbell and Benaron Gleiberman, Co-presidents of Jewish Federation of Edmonton
(Edmonton) – We are honoured and humbled to act as the co-presidents for the Jewish Federation of Edmonton.
The presidency seat has remained unfilled for many years. We aspire to work hard to fulfill the needs of this role. We would be remiss if we did not give a tremendous shout out to the executive of the past few years, who has all worked to take on extra tasks, in lieu of no president. Special kudos go out to Steve Shafir, who served many years on the Federation board and executive; and was the last president to fill the seat. Thank you, Steve, for all your years of dedication to the Jewish Federation of Edmonton.
We have a big year ahead of us; with the work on our new Jewish Community Centre (JCC) beginning soon. We will enter the construction phase of this project. With the anticipation of the new JCC, we hope that all of Jewish Edmonton will share in the excitement as this project draws closer to fruition.
The exodus from the office we called home for over a decade has reinforced that we need our own building. Luckily, we could find a temporary space that will be sufficient until our new office is ready.
Coming up soon on January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day. We encourage you to check out the display, Here to Tell, at the Alberta Art Gallery. The exhibit will be at the Alberta Art Gallery until February 9. Many school groups will visit this exhibit as part of their Holocaust Education studies.
Stay tuned while we plan for many events this coming year.
The Jewish Federation staff and board will continue to work closely with its many partners:
- Jewish Federations of North America,
- Jewish Federations Canada – United Israel Appeal,
- The Jewish Agency for Israel,
- The Joint Distribution Committee,
- Coast to Coast Partnership2Gether, and more.
We will also continue to collaborate, network, and build on our good relationship with the provincial government, Edmonton Police Service, and many other groups in our city.
Last, we will continue to pray for the release of the remaining hostages, and wish for an end to this war and peace upon our Jewish Homeland.
