(AJNews) – It is with great sadness that we share the announcement of the passing of our beloved friend Randy Soifer, of blessed memory. Over the past thirty-five years, Randy was an important behind the scenes advisor to the editorial team at (first) Edmonton Jewish News and now Alberta Jewish News. The combination of his wisdom, wit, enthusiasm and kindness made him a most valuable sounding board for many controversial issues and general community broyges. We didn’t always follow his advice but his thoughtful perspective was always considered and respected. And at times the banter was quite lively. His family’s loss is a loss not only to this newspaper and to his many friends but to the whole community.
Talmud Torah Society, an organization that has been dear to his heart shared these words: “We mourn the loss of Randy Soifer z”l, a lifelong member of Edmonton Talmud Torah community and a proud graduate of the Class of ’65. Together with his wife Jane, Randy sent all four of their children through Talmud Torah K-9, continuing his family’s deep connection to our school.
“Randy’s dedication went far beyond his own family. He served in many leadership roles – including President, Treasurer, and Building Chair – where his vision and commitment helped bring our current school building to life. He led with generosity, wisdom and a steady hand. Randy’s love for Talmud Torah will live on in our community, and his presence will be profoundly missed. May his memory be a blessing.”
