Powerful documentary ‘October 8’ will be screened in both Calgary and Edmonton

(AJNews) – Join both the Calgary and the Edmonton Jewish communities for powerful screenings of October 8 – a gripping documentary that offers a searing look at the explosion of antisemitism on college campuses, on social media, and in the streets of America following the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel.

Calgary Jewish Federation will offer two showings at 7 pm on Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10. Purchase your tickets now and watch the trailer. Proceeds from this event will benefit Partnership2Gether initiatives and the rebuilding efforts in Etzba HaGalil. Don’t miss this important screening at Canyon Meadows Cinemas.

In Edmonton, October 8 is opening at Scotiabank Theatre at West Edmonton Mall on April 4 and the Jewish Federation of Edmonton “is encouraging our community to bring your friends and allies out to see this important film. You are welcome to join Federation staff when we head to the theatre on Wednesday, April 9 for the 6:30 p.m. showing.

This film features compelling insights from well-known figures, including Debra Messing, Michael Rapaport, Mosab Yousef (son of Hamas’s co-founder), Sheryl Sandberg, Scott Galloway, U.S. Rep. Ritchie Torres, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, U.S. Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt, Dan Senor, Noa Tishby, Bari Weiss, and a survivor from Nir Oz. October 8 also uncovers the deep connections between Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, raising urgent questions about the future of Western democracy.

“If you want to understand what Jewish communities have been going through for the last 18 months, you need to see this documentary. We encourage you to bring your non-Jewish friends to the Edmonton showings,” says Stacey Leavitt-Wright, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton.

“This documentary isn’t just for the Jewish community – it’s for everyone,” states the Federation in a post. “By bringing both Jewish and non-Jewish friends, you help foster meaningful dialogue and understanding. October 8 creates a space for empathy, education, and action, helping to dispel misconceptions and build stronger community ties.”
