Beit Halochem: Beyond the 7th – Stronger Together on May 22 in Calgary

(Calgary) – Since its 1978 founding, Beit Halochem Canada, Aid to Disabled Veterans of Israel (BHC) has raised funds to provide rehabilitative services and therapeutic programming to disabled veterans and their families at state-of-the-art Beit Halochem Centres across Israel.

Beit Halochem is committed to rehabilitating, rebuilding, and enhancing the lives of now-over 64,000 Israeli men and women injured in the line of duty, including more than 14,000 veterans disabled since October 7 and in the ensuing war. We assist Israel’s wounded defenders from the day they are injured and for the rest of their lives, while empowering them to be active, engaged participants in Israeli society.

Beit Halochem’s members include anyone injured while protecting Israel regardless of religion, gender, or country of origin. As the only organization legally responsible for the well-being and welfare of all Israel’s wounded veterans, Beit Halochem’s role is more significant than ever.

At rehabilitation Centres in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, Be’er Sheva, and soon Ashdod, a wide range of exceptional, individualized therapeutic programs and specialized, rehabilitative services are offered. As the entire family is impacted, inspired programming, including creative and cultural activities, engage partners and children while injured veterans receive essential therapies.

Since October 7, Beit Halochem Centres have greatly expanded their inventories of rehabilitative equipment and significantly increased their staff, including trainers, physical therapists, art therapists, and specialized sports coaches to accommodate both the immediate and ongoing needs of the unprecedented influx of new members. With more than 40% of those wounded since October 7 diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, multi-faceted PTSD support programming is increasingly vital.

From their earliest days in the hospital, the injured and their families are visited by Beit Halochem volunteers, many of them members, themselves. These visits tell them that they are not alone.  They are joining Beit Halochem, the House of Warriors. It will become their family; a second home.

While we yearn for peace, the great need to defend and secure Israel never ends. Beit Halochem wants no increase in its membership. Unfortunately, these last 17 months demonstrates just how quickly these numbers can rise.

Beit Halochem knows that when the fighting ends for Israel’s injured Heroes, their real battle is only beginning. They were there for us. We are now with them. Always.

We can be there for Israel’s disabled veterans when they arrive in Calgary on Thursday, May 22 for BHC’s presentation of Beyond the 7th: Stronger Together. The evening will inspire our community as Israel’s Heroes – all injured on October 7 and beyond – tell their personal stories of determination, strength, and triumph. These men and women’s onstage presentations are complemented by musical performances from outstanding Israeli entertainers.

You have the unique opportunity to ride alongside Israel’s Heroes in solidarity and support on Beit Halochem Canada’s annual fundraising initiative, Courage in Motion. We’re gearing up for this five-day spectacular bike ride through southern Israel’s historic sites and magnificent landscapes from October 19-23. Join us!

Cycling has become one of the most popular sports offered at Beit Halochem Centres, enabling those with diminished eyesight or without the use of their limbs to enjoy the outdoors in the company of other cyclists.
