An important message about mail delivery from Alberta Jewish News

by Deborah Shatz

(AJNews) – The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has launched a nation wide strike which has halted Canada Post mail delivery effective immediately. This has resulted in the complete shutdown of Canada Post’s mail service until the strike is over. This affects mail that is already in the system – it will not be delivered until the strike is over. And Canada Post is not accepting any new mail for delivery.

The announcement comes on the heels of a slowdown in the delivery of neighbourhood mail. For Alberta Jewish News readers, it means that many of you have not yet received your September High Holiday edition. The newspaper should have been delivered to your homes well over a week ago but many were not.

To increase access to community news, we are distributing more copies of Alberta Jewish News to the gathering places where they are available to community members at no charge.

In Calgary newspapers are available at the Paperny Family Calgary JCC, Calgary Jewish Academy, Halpern Akiva Academy, Chabad Alberta, Beth Tzedec, Temple B’nai Tikvah, House of Jacob Mikveh Israel, Gruman’s Delicatessen, Jewish Family Services Calgary and in a box outside of Safeway at Glenmore Landing. Please pickup a copy of the newspaper at one of these locations and if you have ideas for more depots please let us know at albertajewishnews@gmail.com.

In Edmonton, newspapers are available at Jewish Federation of Edmonton office, Talmud Torah School, Beth Israel, Beth Shalom, Temple Beth Ora, Bliss Baked Goods, Jewish Family Services Edmonton, OPH, L’OCA, the European Market and in boxes outside of Brook’s No-Frills, Callingwood Safeway and Wolf Willow Bank of Montreal.

We are sorry for the inconvenience but remain committed to producing and distributing news that informs, entertains, enlightens and connects our community.

For the duration of the postal strike, Alberta Jewish News is also offering free online advertising to all of our print ad customers.  That represents a savings of over $500. This will include both our weekly Alberta Jewish Schmooze which is delivered into subscriber’s inboxes each week and on our website which is viewed on x daily as well as being part of the RSS feed. Click here to subscribe to Alberta Jewish Schmooze – there is no charge and it ensures you get all the news delivered to your inbox each week.
