An important message from Camp BB-Riback

Dear Camp BB Riback Families & Community Members:

Recently, we learned of recent efforts in Ontario seeking to pressure camp accreditation bodies to revoke accreditation from Jewish camps that support Israel or employ Israeli staff. We want to be clear: Camp BB Riback remains fully accredited and in good standing, and there has been no change to our operations.

The Ontario Camps Association (OCA), the provincial body responsible for camp accreditation, in Ontario has issued a clear and principled response identifying this campaign as discriminatory and antisemitic. OCA reaffirmed that accreditation exists to ensure camps meet rigorous standards for safety, governance, and program quality — not to serve as a vehicle for political or discriminatory agendas.  We assume the other provincial camping associations will follow their lead.

Israeli staff and Israel education have long been essential elements of life here at Camp BB Riback and at Jewish camps across North America. They reflect the deep and enduring connection between North American and Israeli Jews and are a core part of our mission to build strong Jewish identity, community, and belonging.

Please know that our focus remains on the safety, well-being, and joyful experience of every camper and staff member. Jewish camp plays a uniquely important role, particularly in moments like this. Camp is a place where children build pride in who they are, form lasting friendships, and experience the strength of community.

As part of our ongoing commitment to safety and security, we have been proactively planning enhancements to our security infrastructure. While we have not received government grant funding for these initiatives, we are actively pursuing alternative funding sources and intend to move forward with these upgrades in the near future.

We are grateful for the trust you place in us and remain committed to ensuring Camp BB Riback continues to be a safe, welcoming, and affirming environment for all.

With appreciation,
Jessica Miller Switzer (Board Chair),
The Board of Directors of Camp BB Riback, and Stacy Shaikin
