(AJNews) – On the morning of August 23, 2026, close to 130 people attended the opening, at Erlton Cemetery, of the new Gan Hazikaron (Garden of Remembrance) and the unveiling of the sculpture, Shattered into Light, that commemorates the victims of October 7, 2023 created by artist, Charles Sherman.
Chevra Kadisha of Calgary co-presidents, Harold Lipton and Susan Dvorkin, led the moving ceremony. Dr. Darryl Gurevitch, chair of the garden committee, spoke about the project which provides a dedicated beautifully landscaped areas set apart from the grave sites where mourners can visit with family and friends and still be near their departed loved ones.
