Shavua Tov Jewish Calgary: We know many of you have spent today glued to the news, checking in on family and friends in Israel, and carrying the weight of what is unfolding in real time.
At Calgary Jewish Federation, we are closely monitoring the situation as Israel confronts continued threats from the Islamic regime in Iran. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted: Israelis facing danger, innocent civilians in Iran, and families here in Canada who are worried about loved ones overseas.
Since this morning, we have been working closely with the Calgary Police Service to enhance awareness, increase patrols, and ensure a visible security presence at Jewish institutions throughout the city. These measures will remain in place over the coming days. We are also in direct contact with leadership at our synagogues, schools, and partner agencies to confirm that all safety protocols and procedures are fully implemented, particularly as we approach Purim and other significant community gatherings.
We continue to coordinate with the Jewish Security Network (JSN), which is monitoring developments nationally. At present, there is no indication of a specific or credible threat to Jewish communities in Canada; however, we remain alert, coordinated, and prepared.
As always, if you notice anything unusual, please report it. In an emergency, call 911 immediately and alert on-site security personnel or community volunteers.
Webinar: Developments in Israel and Iran
Tomorrow at 7:00 pm MT, we will host a national webinar featuring Yaron Deckel, in partnership with Jewish Federations across Canada and CIJA. Yaron is widely recognized in Israel as a leading journalist, editor, and broadcaster. This session will provide important context on recent events, potential next steps, and ways our community can respond and show support.
For those with family or loved ones in Israel
- Canadians in Israel are encouraged to register with the Government of Canada.
- Emergency consular support information is available.
- Urgent assistance can be requested.
These are challenging times that can bring uncertainty and concern, but they can also strengthen our sense of unity and purpose.
Our Federation is here to support, safeguard, and bring our community together. We remain committed to being present, responsive, and connected – today and always.
May the days ahead bring calm, protection for all civilians, and a lasting path toward peace and security.
Am Yisroel Chai.
