(Calgary) – Calgary’s Jewish community is delighted to welcome Rabbi Yonatan and Mrs. Rachel Leah Plotkin, a vibrant young couple from Israel who recently arrived to be teachers at Halpern Akiva Academy. With deep roots in education and community engagement, the Plotkins bring warmth, energy, and a passion for teaching to their new home.
Yonatan and Rachel Leah grew up in Israel. Yonatan has a background in individualized education and tutoring. He enjoys cooking, hiking, skiing, and playing guitar, and draws inspiration from his father, a longtime educator, and his mother, an event producer in Jerusalem.
Rachel Leah has extensive experience working with young children and children with special needs. She is passionate about emotional development, creative expression, and building meaningful connections. Her mother, a seasoned special education teacher, has been a guiding force in her professional journey.
The Plotkins are excited to join the staff at Halpern Akiva Academy and have already felt embraced by the warmth and hospitality of the Calgary Jewish community. “It truly feels like family,” they shared, expressing gratitude for the support they’ve received since arriving.
As they settle into life in Calgary, the Plotkins look forward to contributing to the community, sharing their talents, and growing alongside the families and students they serve.
Welcome, Yonatan and Rachel Leah – Halpern Akiva Academy is thrilled to have you here!
