Bridging Generations and Borders: TT students’ cards reach IDF soldiers

Talmud Torah students and members of the Edmonton Jewish Senior Citizens Centre created heartfelt greeting cards filled with hope and love for soldiers in the IDF.

(Edmonton) – Back in July 2024, The Talmud Torah Society’s Out of School Care program took a truly meaningful field trip to the Edmonton Jewish Seniors Centre. The goal of the visit was simple yet powerful: to bring generations together in a shared act of kindness.

IDF soldiers receive greeting cards made by Talmud Torah students and JDIC members.

Side by side, our children and the seniors created heartfelt greeting cards filled with messages of hope and love for the brave soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). It was a beautiful scene – young hands and wise hands working together, sharing stories, laughter, and purpose. Our students beamed with pride as they crafted each card, knowing they were doing something special with their new and cherished friends.

But one big question lingered in the air: How would these cards reach the soldiers?

We are thrilled to share that – nine months later – photos have arrived showing our cards in the hands of the very soldiers they were made for. You can only imagine the excitement and joy when we saw the smiling faces of IDF soldiers holding the students’ creations.

A huge thank you to the Vaisblat and Lee families for their dedication and support in ensuring these cards made the long journey to such important people. This act of kindness has truly come full circle – spanning generations, miles, and hearts.
