Jewish Federation of Edmonton: Statement on current Iranian conflict & special webinars tomorrow

by Stacey Leavitt-Wright

(Edmonton) – Dear community members, We are writing today following a dramatic and historic escalation in the Middle East. Late last night, the United States and Israel launched a major joint military assault on Iran. Iran responded by launching missiles and drones toward Israel and U.S. bases in the region, contributing to widespread concern and uncertainty for Israelis and for Jewish communities worldwide.

We know that these developments are distressing for many in our community, especially for those with loved ones in Israel and across the region. Please know that the Jewish Federation of Edmonton is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with our national and international partners.

We remain in active and ongoing communication with law enforcement and have reminded  community partners to follow established security protocols. Community vigilance is essential; please report any suspicious activity.

At this time, there is no specific or credible threat to the Jewish community in Edmonton, and we will continue to receive timely updates should anything change. You may see increased police presence at upcoming events and programs out of an abundance of caution.

Standing with Israel — and with the oppressed people of Iran

As events unfold, we stand firmly with the people of Israel as they confront a dangerous and volatile moment. Today’s military operation reflects escalating threats from the Islamic Regime, whose actions—including the pursuit of nuclear weapons capability and the repression of its own people—have endangered regional and global security for years.

Our thoughts are also with the people of Iran who continue to suffer under a brutal regime responsible for widespread oppression, violence, and human rights abuses. Jewish and Persian communities share a deep cultural and historical bond, and we remain committed to a future in which Iranians can live in freedom, safety, and dignity.

Special briefings tomorrow

At this critical moment, we encourage you to join Jewish Federations of North America for a special briefing on the rapidly unfolding conflict between Israel, the United States, and Iran. Haviv Rettig Gur, political correspondent and senior analyst for The Times of Israel, will provide a timely analysis of the latest developments. This webinar will take place tomorrow at 10 a.m. MST and you can register now.

In addition, you are invited to join the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs and the Canadian Federations who are holding a national webinar at 5 p.m. MST featuring Yaron Deckel, one of Israel’s most respected journalists, who will provide real‑time insight into today’s developments. Register now.

Supporting one another

We know days like today can feel overwhelming. Please take care of yourselves and one another. Reach out to Jewish Family Services if you need support. We will continue to share verified information and updates as the situation evolves.

Am Yisrael Chai.
