(AJNews) – January 27 2026 will mark the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz Birkenau German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp. Over one million people were murdered in this vast complex alone, most of them Jews.
In 2005, that day – January 27 – was designated as the annual International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Each year, Canadians and individuals all over the world take this opportunity to remember the victims of the atrocities of the Holocaust and reflect on the dangers of anti-Semitism.
In Calgary
On January 27, join Calgary Public Library and Calgary Jewish Federation’s Holocaust and Human Rights: Remembrance and Education department for a screening and live performance of the score of “Le Chemin des Juifs: A Survivor’s Journey.”
The film shares the story of a forgotten road in northern France. The footprints of Belgian Jews — forced into labour between 1942 and 1944 — stand as a silent testament to suffering, resilience, and one survivor’s extraordinary journey from captivity to peace.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Daniel Bhattacharya and moderated by Rabbi Ilana Krygier Lapides.
This event will take place at the Calgary Central Library, in-person and ansvirtually.
