Law enforcement confirms there is no increased threat to Jewish communities in Canada at this time

(AJNews) – Yesterday, Israel’s National Security Council raised its travel advisory for Canada from Level 1 to Level 2. Jewish Federation of Edmonton issued a statement to reassure community members about the notice.

In a message to the community, Jewish Federation of Edmonton CEO Stacey Leavitt-Wright wrote, “We understand that this development may be concerning for members of our community. Please know that our Jewish Federation is actively monitoring the situation and remain in close contact with law enforcement at the local, provincial, and national levels and with our security colleagues across the Canadian Federation system.

“Law enforcement has confirmed thatthere is no increased threat to Jewish communities in Canada at this time. ”

She continued, “We recognize that threats can take both physical and psychological forms, and we remain committed to vigilance, resilience, and care in response to both. Our community’s safety and peace of mind remain our highest priorities. We encourage everyone to stay alert and take the following precautions:

  • If you see something, say something.
  • When in public, please exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you attend public events and rallies, avoid engaging with protesters.
  • In an emergency, call 911.
  • Continue to report hate related incidents to Edmonton Police Service and to our online antisemitism reporting tool at org.”

“Today, we take pride in seeing 50,000 members of Toronto’s Jewish community and their allies gathering in celebration, including Indigenous allies from Edmonton who participated,” wrote Leavitt-Wright.  “Our community is strong, resilient, and well supported. We remain committed to keeping everyone safe, informed, and connected.

“Wishing you a peaceful week ahead.”
